In the remote Russian Far East, we joined conservationist Guido Rahr and scientist Mikhail Skopets on an expedition to study the oversized cousins of Pacific salmon, Siberian taimen. These prehistoric “river tigers” represent one of the last intact wild salmonid ecosystems on earth.

These watersheds are beyond the reach of civilization, but they still face growing threats from poachers, logging, and unregulated industry. By documenting the unlikely alliance between conservationists and Russian industrialist Alexander Abramov, we captured a story as urgent as it was cinematic.

The resulting documentary became one of Yonder’s most ambitious projects to date, earning accolades while raising global awareness about the need to preserve these irreplaceable strongholds of biodiversity.
